National regulations

Already half a century ago, the concepts of working at height, safety belts, ladders, walkways, etc. were introduced with the Presidential Decree of 27 April 1955, no. 547, "Rules for the prevention of accidents at work", and with the Presidential Decree of 7 January 1956, no. 164, "Rules for the prevention of accidents at work in construction". 
Over the years, the national regulatory framework has been enriched with elements aimed at improving the safety of working at height. 
The main steps of the regulatory framework are:

• Legislative Decree 19 September 1994, n. 626 and subsequent amendments
• Legislative Decree 14 August 1996, n.494 and subsequent amendments
• Legislative Decree 8 July 2003, n.235
• Law no. 12 of 3 August 2007, "Measures regarding the protection of health and safety at work and delegation to the government for the reorganization and reform of the relevant legislation", provides for the issuance of a new consolidated text on the matter.
• Legislative Decree 9 April 2008, n.81, "Consolidated Law on Health and Safety at Work" published in the Official Journal no. 101 of 30 April 2008 - Ordinary Supplement 108. It consists of the sum of the previous provisions collected and divided into the thirteen "Titles" that form the backbone of the Consolidated Law, repealing the validity of the related legislative acts. Important elements, including new ones, are contained in the fifty-one annexes that complete the new regulatory framework.
• Legislative Decree 3 August 2009, n.106, amending Legislative Decree no. 81 of 9 April 2008, further clarifies the roles involved in tasks relating to workplace safety, attempting to address some of the gaps in the previous decree.
