In an effort to reduce injuries resulting from falls from heights, some Regions, Provinces, and organizations have implemented various approaches to mitigate the risk.

With the advent of specific Regional and Provincial regulations on the subject (for the Regions or Provinces in bold in the list above), partly coercive as they form the basis of the issuing of building permits or the DIA (SCIA), the need to design "safe roofs" arises.
